Significant Web Outage Impacts Numerous Sites and Mobile Apps

An extensive web failure has disrupted numerous websites and applications around the world, and users experiencing problems getting online after problems at the cloud computing system.

The impacted services comprise the social media app Snapchat, Roblox, the messaging service Signal, and Duolingo, as well as a host of Amazon-operated operations like its primary shopping platform and the Ring doorbell doorbell company.

Across the United Kingdom, the financial institution Lloyds was impacted in addition to its branches Halifax and Bank of Scotland, while there were also reports of issues reaching the HM Revenue and Customs site on that morning. Also in the UK, many Ring customers used social media to complain their doorbells were malfunctioning.

Just within Britain, reports of issues on individual apps reached the tens of thousands for each platform.

Amazon reported that the issue began in the east coast of the United States at AWS, a unit that provides essential web infrastructure for numerous businesses, who rent out space on the company's servers. AWS is the most extensive online services platform.

The monitoring service Thousand Eyes, a platform that monitors online failures, also reported a rise in issues on that morning, including several cases situated in Virginia, the location of the AWS US-East-1 zone where officials confirmed the outage began.
