A key Nobel prize awarding bodies has issued a warning that academic freedom is under threat in the US and globally, with government intervention causing long-lasting negative effects – while researchers get ready for next week’s prize revelations.

The former president has introduced or suggested a series of policies during his recent administration that critics argue will restrict learning and scientific research.
